Nedlands marks 60 years as a city in 2019—and you’re invited to celebrate.

The event features live music from The Chameleon Brass Band and Little Belle, food trucks, kids’ activities and more. Nedlands Mayor Max Hipkins said that while the official anniversary is in July, the event was being held a few months earlier to ensure good weather.

"On 1 July, 1959, Nedlands became the fourth city to be declared in Western Australia, after it was previously known as the Municipality of Nedlands and, before then, the Nedlands Road Board," he said.

"The first council meeting was held at 2.15pm at Dalkeith Hall with John Charles Smith becoming the first mayor of the City of Nedlands.

"The oath of allegiance was pledged in front of Deputy Premier Charles Court and Perth Lord Mayor Harry Howard.

"Since then, the City has grown and prospered, survived amalgamation attempts, retained its traditional character and become a thriving community of more than 21,000 residents.

"The City of Nedlands has been an integral part of the western suburbs for the past six decades—and that’s something that should be celebrated."

The Chameleon Brass Band plays from 4:15pm to 5:30pm with a sound based on the New Orleans re-birth style of jazz, mixed with funk and hip hop. Incorporating second line drum rhythms with funky horn lines, the band has a vibe and energy that will radiate through the crowd.

From 5:45pm to 7pm, Little Belle take to the stage—described as suave and sophisticated with a sassy edge, the band is made up of six highly sought-after Perth musicians. Little Belle has performed at numerous corporate events including the Lexus Ball for Telethon, Polo in the City and Melbourne Cup at Ascot Racecourse with their range covering everything from acoustic to rock.
