Perth Folk and Roots Club is back with more folk and roots with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Steve Tallis and the Western Suntones.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes back Steve Tallis and the Western Suntones providing some of the most popular music of the Club at Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club ‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Steve Tallis is Western Australia’s self proclaimed blues shaman who has been performing and recording since the 1960’s and is a major figure in the Perth blues scene. Steve Tallis is well known for a mixture of blues, traditional folk and gospel with a touch of voodoo themes. Steve has produced a number of nationally and internationally acclaimed albums and has also been living and performing in Paris until recently. Steve has lived and performed in the USA, Europe, Mexico and Asia supporting some of the biggest names in music.

Influences include Leadbelly, John Coltrane, Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, Tony Williams Lifetime, Van Morrison, Howling Wolf, Tom Waits, Jack Bruce, Kip Hanrahan and Bob Dylan. African, Indian, Haitian and Islamic music have all had a spiritual and rhythmic influence. Steve was awarded an Arts WA Contemporary Music Fellowship in 2003 to study, compose and tour with master musicians in Africa, India and Greece. His album 'First Degree' released in 2014 has an energetic electric sound from his trusty SG Guitar. Steve has recently returned from Europe and is active in organising the Gas Light Club nights at the Fly by Night Club.

The Western Suntones were formed in 2009 in Fremantle and are a country/blues roots based alt country Americana band currently playing in and around Perth WA. The line-up as a trio is Chris Harwood, acoustic upright bass/vocals, Steve Smith acoustic guitar/mandolin/vocals, and Jeff Barham - Acoustic/Electric guitar, mandolin, Dobro and vocals. Chris has been on the scene for a while in various original, rock and blues bands, most notably The Rockin Avocados of old Steve’s Hotel days, and blues bands The Moneymakers with Mark Vine, Bayou Brothers and Tin Dog. Steve “Hayseed” Smith is the Carl Perkins aficionado of the Western Suntones and Jeff provides Dobro sliding, Mandolin massaging, guitar picking.

"As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience," Keith added.

Please note the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club is hosting the Perth Folk and Roots Club as a free event for its members and guests with memberships offered at a very reasonable cost to Perth Folk and Roots Club supporters.
