Perth Folk and Roots Club is back with folk and roots music with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. On this occasion we also gratefully acknowledge the sponsorship of this event by Masonic Care WA. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has the Strays and Chooky the Bluesman.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes Masonic Care WA sponsorship of the night and the performances of the Strays and Chooky the Bluesman who will be bringing a party to Masonic Care WA and the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club ‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

The Strays formed in 2012 and came together with the current lineup in late 2014. They are a group of seasoned musicians with diverse musical histories and influences. The Strays’ songs are all original and composed by the band collectively; from acoustic guitar and folk melodies through to electric guitar reggae and rock. The Strays originals get their followers singing and dancing in the finest tradition of catchy pop songs. The Strays are singer, song writer and rhythm guitarist Martin Gregory; percussionist Allan Wilkerson; keyboards and vocalist Leonie Squire; lead guitarist Fred Wehr; and bass guitarist Andrew Heard. The Strays have an all-electric rock band and for Perth Folk and Roots Club they are offering a performance emphasizing their acoustic sounds.

Chook the Bluesman (Steven Keir) is a solo bluesman who plays slide guitar on a dobro with a bit of harmonica and tambourine. Chooky taught myself how to play from listening to Robert Johnson, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, and also plays a wide range of blues originals. Chook has been part of the Perth and Fremantle blues scene for a long time with performances at the Perth Blues Club, Bridgetown Blues Festival, Freo Roots and Blues Festival, Boyup Brooke Country Music Festival and Nannup Music Festival. Chook has also toured the North West with another Perth blues favourite, Ivan Zar all the way up to Fitzroy Crossing and back. Chook has a 14 track CD available called Natural Boogie Live at the Mumby recorded at the Mumby Pub on the Donnybrook-Boyup Brook Road in Mumballup in the South West. Chooky is 100% blues and one of the last traditional delta blues style players and singers around. He is not to be missed for blues aficionados.

"As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience," Keith added.
