Perth Folk and Roots Club

The next Perth Folk and Roots Club has been planned with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Silva Dee and the Ciaran O’Sullivan and Fiona Doyle Duet.

"Perth Folk and Roots Club looks forward to seeing Silva Dee and the Ciaran O’Sullivan and Fiona Doyle Duet at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club," said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Silva Dee has been performing in many bands nationally and internationally to date—having formed the Freo Grasshoppers in 2007. The band has been on ABC TV state line program in 2010 after the release of their first album—"I Guess I’m lucky” and sold over a thousand copies. The second album "Taking You Home Tonight" released in 2010 had an enormous response and positive feedback and the last track on the album "Burning away" on global warming gained attention in the USA. The title track "I Guess I’m Lucky" was picked up by Trinity Productions in the USA to be used in "Signs of Our Times", a documentary film.

The band has performed in WA locally and along the coast, north and south including various mine sites and inland country towns. Silva Dee and the Freo Grasshoppers recently released a new album "Hangin in There" with Jean Guy on Harmonica. Their musical influences and selection is wide and varied covering songs from early blues; reggae, Oscar ‘Buddy’ Woods, Jimmy Rogers, Tampa Red, Brownie McGee, to more recent artists such as JJ Cale, Leo Kottke, Ian Tyson, Robert Plant and Alison Kraus.

The Ciaran O’Sullivan and Fiona Doyle Duet play a mixture of Irish traditional songs with a number of contemporary folk based songs with Ciarans powerful vocal melodies fused with Fionas flute flare gives this duo its own unique sound. Ciaran on guitar and vocals has lived in Perth for the past 8 years and is a familiar face throughout the traditional Irish scene and singing circles including being a performer at the Perth Irish Club. Ciaran is currently in the middle of recording an album in collaboration with a variety of musicians. Fiona on flute and whistle has previously performed with the Perth Symphony Orchestra, and spent time in Ireland performing across multiple venues alongside various traditional musicians. The Perth native brings a wonderful air with her talented flute and whistle playing in addition to her unique and subtle vocal sound.

"As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience," Keith added.
