If you’ve always wanted to have a go at the pottery wheel, then this is introductory workshop is for you. In this two day workshop you will learn and practice the basics and you’re sure to get hooked! This session is suitable for absolute beginners or those who have a little previous experience and would like to practice under the guidance of a tutor.

What to expect:

Day 1

- Watch demonstrations by your tutor who will show you step by step what to do
- Learn how to prepare your clay (wedging)
- Practise the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing including: centering and shaping
- Practise throwing simple cylindrical objects (pots, bowls, vessels)

Day 2

- Learn and practice trimming your thrown vessels
- Be introduced to a range of basic hand surface decorating techniques (for example sgraffito, rolled decoration)
- 1 or 2 objects (size dependent) will be bisque fired. Bisque firing will occur during the week and work can be collected at a later date. You may choose to glaze your vessels and have them glaze fired, this is an additional fee.

Our purpose built ceramics studio is equipped with 8 wheels. Clay can be purchased at the workshop, a limited number of glazes are available and work is kiln fired on the premises. There is a maximum of 8 students in this class.

Our spacious, light-filled warehouse is an inspiring art space featuring four teaching studios and gallery space and a brand new dedicated ceramics studio. Our professionally managed and purpose built pottery and ceramics studio is equipped with 8 pottery wheels (Venco), dedicated handbuilding stations, slab roller, extruder, glaze and kiln rooms. The studio has 3 electric kilns and all firing occurs on the premises managed by the studio coordinator. A good selection of glazes are available for student use.
