In this talk, Caterina Romeo will examine the cultural production of migrant and second-generation women authors in contemporary Italy and analyze the complex ways in which they disturb traditional patriarchal narratives but also question the very notion of a global sisterhood, central in the development of feminism in Italy and in Italian gender studies.
Caterina Romeo, Ph.D. is currently an Academic Visitor, School of Cultures at the Languages and Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, University of Auckland. She is a Researcher at Università di Roma La Sapienza, where she teaches Literary Criticism and Gender Studies. She has written numerous essays on literature and Italo-American culture, postcolonial theory and literature, the construction of race in contemporary Italy, and feminist criticism and theory.
