The Koskela Gallery is proud to present Quietly, a body of new landscape works by acclaimed artist Wendy McDonald.

Wendy McDonald paints from her property Thule Lagoon, near the Murray River in Southwest NSW. Her work draws from the ecology of the local environment, the ebb and flow of the creeks and rivers and the dramatic changes of the seasons. She is honoured to tell the story of the ephemeral floodplain and the joys of belonging to a small community, through her art.

In Quietly, Wendy has turned to the exceptionally dry conditions of 2018; how living on the lagoon “requires an acceptance and understanding of place in all its guises. If you don’t bend, you may break. We sit here quietly whilst recognising the power of this land and its arid beauty. It embraces us as we must embrace it”.

Wendy’s work has been exhibited in state and regional museums, including the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery and NSW Parliament House, Sydney. In 2018, Wendy was profiled in the lauded publication A Painted Landscape by Amber Creswell-Bell (Thames and Hudson). Wendy has been a finalist in numerous awards including the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize 2016 & 2017, the Paddington Art Prize, The Calleen Art Prize and The Swan Hill Print & Drawing Acquisitive Prize.

Located in Rosebery the Koskela Gallery shines a light on emerging new art for collectors, and has profiled some of the countries greatest up and coming and established artists. An art gallery that is inclusive rather than exclusive in a warm and welcoming space, with a monthly curated exhibition program. The Koskela Gallery is a spotlight for Australian contemporary artists working across a range of media. We celebrate the creativity of our homegrown art scene.
