Title: Is it time for democratic renewal?

A 2018 research report 'Trust and Democracy in Australia: Democracy Decline and Renewal' published by Democracy 2025 highlighted that in 2018, satisfaction in democracy had more than halved in a decade and trust in key institutions and social leaders was eroding. It added that if nothing was done and current trends continued, fewer than 10 per cent of Australians would trust their politicians and political institutions in 2025—resulting in ineffective and illegitimate government, and declining social and economic wellbeing. There is an urgent need to reengage people in democratic decision-making, so is the time ripe for democratic renewal?

Join Professor Mark Evans, Director of Democracy 2025 and Professor John Uhr, Australian National University as they explore the relationship between democracy and policy-making and focus on how the democratic process handles policy debate.

This discussion will be moderated by Dr Chris Hatherly from the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA). Audiences can expect a lively discussion and the opportunity to participate in the Q&A session. Please join us for refreshments from 1pm until 1:30pm.
