Swell is an immersive live art experience that explores the future of live music. This is your invitation to journey through multiple music-meets-art encounters inside never-before-seen parts of the iconic Espy.

Let’s begin with some little-known facts and an intriguing question.

Fact: The most significant philanthropic gift to the arts in Australia was from a man who made his fortune selling drugs - an eccentric pharmacist Alfred Felton.

Fact: Alfred Felton lived and died at the Espy, a former seaside resort turned live music institution that was up until recently sat boarded up.

Question: What could a live music experience be like throughout all five levels of this restored Melbourne icon...with that history as backdrop?

Swell 4.0 invites you to step inside a surreal world of reimagined live music. A journey through multiple music-meets-art encounters inside never before seen parts of this iconic live music institution, including spaces still not open to the public.

An immersive adventure exploring possibilities for Music As Medicine.

Live Music, Reimagined

Swell is a two-hour live art experience that invites you, the audience, to choose-your-own-adventure through multiple reimagined live music experiences and interactive installations. It's intimate, surprising and oozes adventure. No headliners and support acts. No stage and audience set up. No hard and fast rules for what you might discover.

This edition of Swell is the fourth in the series, set to take place throughout the iconic Espy. Each edition is site specific, drawing themes from the location to create a never-before-felt-experience. You can read more about past locations, artists and reviews at Swell Live Music website.

Still don't know quite what you're venturing into? That's the point. There's only one way to find out.
