Proudly presented by IKSIMA Films, the festivals 6th year will kick off with an Opening Night at Dendy Opera Quays by cocktails and an electrifying award-winning Czech film, Jan Palach. The festival then moves to Dedny Cinemas Newtown venue and brings an impressive line-up of films including Australian and World Premieres from both countries.

The selection of films this year presents one of the most remarkable Czech TV productions of recent times: Dukla 61. David Ondříček’s film examines the largest Czech mining disaster of the Communist era through the eyes of a man working at the mine along with his son. On the other hand, Adolf Zika’s documentary Robert Vano – The Story of a Man/Robert Vano - Příběh člověka deviates from typical biographical documentaries on important personalities mainly due to Robert Vano’s attitude to life. One can easily relate to the life story of this famous Slovak photographer now once again living in the Czech Republic after decades spent in the US.

But the festival is not only serious. Audience can look forward to Miloš Forman’s Oscar nominated masterpiece The Firemen’s Ball /Hoří má panenko from 1967. The closing night will bring international premiere of Rudolf Havlík’s excellent comedy What Men Long For/Po čem muži touží—the biggest box office hit of 2018 which surpassed even the biggest US blockbusters in popularity.

Multi-passes are available. All films are in Czech/Slovak language with English subtitles. For age restrictions please check each film.
