The Andy Sugg Group

Andy Sugg made a memorable debut at Bird's Basement in December, and he will return with the same stellar lineup to share his musical vision and ideas with fans who appreciate first-rate musicianship.

One of Australia's most accomplished saxophonists, Andy Sugg has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Odean Pope and Bob Sheppard. He is delighted to feature his very talented daughter vocalist and pianist Kate Kelsey-Sugg (aka Katey Kay Ess), back home briefly from her current base in New York. Her 2018 highlights included performing at the Grammy Awards, and being the featured vocalist on one track of the recent Blue Note release from pianist James Francies.

Joining them will be another guest from New York, keyboardist Brett Williams. Brett has been a member of Marcus Miller's band since 2013. Other major artists he has performed with include Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper, Cory Henry, Joe Lovano and Victor Bailey. As he showed when he joined Andy and Kate onstage in December, he is a brilliant, and admirably tasteful pianist. Completing the Group will be bassist Philip Rex and drummer Kieran Rafferty.

The band will focus on performing original material by Andy, Kate and Brett. Expect a diverse program that ranges from straight ahead to fusion, funk and neo-soul.
