Los Angeles-based magician, John Lovick, is a performer, writer, and theatre director, who teaches magic at the University of Southern California. As his not-so-secret alter ego, Handsome Jack, he performs regularly at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, where he won the Parlour Magician of the Year Award in 2016. Recently, he appeared on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, where he fooled them with a classic sleight performed exceptionally well, under the cover of a clear and hilarious premise—a balance he has examined in his lectures and books for many years.

John is perhaps best known as the author of Handsome Jack, etc., a retrospective of his work, the first printing of which sold out in under three months. Previous books he authored or co-authored include SWITCH, Experience, The Paper Engine, Mayhew, and Asi Wind’s Repertoire. He’s also written numerous product reviews and performer profiles in MAGIC and Genii magazines, and is the creator of “The Reparation”, a popular Torn and Restored Card handling that has been a huge seller over the last fifteen years.

His lecture focuses on material that can be done both in close-up and stand-up settings, and are all routines right out of his working repertoire. Items he will be teaching including his work on the $100 bill switch, his famous bottle production, “That’s My Ring!”, “Win a Date Lotto”, and other interactive tricks, including the popular “My Dream of Mind-reading”. He will also share some of his ideas about performance, character, and scripting..

Recommended for ages 12+.

This lecture is approximately 2 hours.
