How to pitch your book to publishers—effectively!
This hands-on workshop is aimed at writers who want to pitch their book/script idea effectively to a publisher, editor or agent. Two pitches will be developed in the workshop: a short ‘elevator’ pitch (for unexpected opportunities!), and a longer pitch to be delivered at more formal one-on-one appointments.
Participants will become aware of two effective ‘formulas’ for creating well organised, succinct and attention-grabbing pitches. They will develop two pitches during the workshop.
Learning Outcomes:
You will improve your skill-set through practical exercises and group discussions in the key areas listed below:
- The differences between an elevator pitch and a formal pitch
- Identify characters, plot, setting in succinct and powerful ways
- How to hold someone's attention with your characters’ aims and obstacles
- The importance of the instigating incident
- How to practice and present yourself for an in-person pitch
- Write, present, and refine one elevator pitch
- Write, present, and refine one formal pitch
