Tool Sharpening Class with Carol Russell.

About the workshop:
In this essential skills class we will cover all aspects of manual sharpening. You will be introduced to sharpening a variety of edges, small knives and carving tools, including lino cutting tools. We will cover the principles of sharpening and restoring edges of dull or rusty tools using waterstones and natural stones. We’ll also discuss using sandpaper as an alternative. We won’t be using motorised grinders. Carol will explain the technique of polishing and maintaining an edge using a leather strop, which you will be able to take home with you.

You are encouraged to bring a couple of your own tools to sharpen. We may not get them all done, but you will leave with at least one sharp edge restored. More importantly you will gain a clear understanding of the process appropriate for different tool edges and the skills to start maintaining and restoring your tools at home.

This is a hands on workshop, it will be messy and fun, there’s nothing like bringing your tools back to life and that first sharp cut with your newly honed tool.
