Travel by V/Line to the Ballarat Tramway Museum and spend the day riding a wide variety of Victoria's heritage trams that formerly ran in Melbourne, Geelong and of course Ballarat. All of the museums electric trams that are available for service will run regular trips and at the end of the day will form a cavalcade from St Aidan's Drive terminus to the Depot. Afterwards, trams will continue to operate in the Ballarat Botanic Gardens precinct until 8pm. An opportunity to ride a heritage tram after sunset before attending White Night. An ideal family activity. Photo opportunities will be provided.

The tram depot, museum and gift shop will be open. Regular, guided tours will be conducted and the shop will have on sale a range of books, badges and other tramway memorabilia. Due to the much needed track replacement between Depot Junction and the Carlton Street terminus, trams will run between the Tram Depot and St Aidan’s Drive. You will be able to have a look at the progress that is being made on these works though during the day.

A heritage, MMTB half cab bus has been provided as a courtesy shuttle from Wendouree Railway Station to the tram museum, connecting with the 10:52am and 11:52am train arrivals from Melbourne. Later on the bus will depart the tram museum at 4:35pm to connect with the 4:56pm train to Melbourne, then at 5:45pm to connect with the 6:06pm train to Melbourne.

For lunch, our good friends at Piper's By The Lake restaurant have very kindly offered a complimentary glass of wine or beer with any main meal purchased. Just ask the tram conductor on board the tram or the attendant at the tram museum for a special postcard, to present to restaurant staff to redeem this special offer. This offer is limited and is only available to those who purchase an All Day Card. We recommend you book your table ahead of time.

At 2pm, the bus will depart the tram museum for an optional, hour-long visit to the Melbourne Tramcar Preservation Association’s museum at Haddon. Here you can see and ride prime examples of Melbourne’s heritage trams, that include several variants of the iconic W series and the rare Victorian Railways tram. Cash only upon arrival. This option is available to those who have already purchased an All Day Card from the Ballarat Tramway Museum. Afterwards, the bus will return you to the Ballarat Tramway Museum, in time for the cavalcade.

A great day out to discover Victoria’s rich tramway heritage.
