Urbanity is the band co-led by Latin Grammy-Award nominated producer, and guitarist Albare with Grammy Award-nominated pianist Phil Turcio.

Their urbane blend of relaxed grooves and melodic interplay is showcased on their new CD release on US-based label, Alfi Records, Urbanity. Urbanity will celebrate the official international release of their second, self-titled album with their performance at Bird’s Basement on Saturday, 2 February.

As guitarist, composer, bandleader and producer, Albare was the pioneer of the ‘acid jazz’ genre in Australia in the late 1980s. He has continued to record and perform at home and abroad, with a number of distinguished colleagues, including Antonio Sanchez, Hendrik Meurkens and George Garzone, to name a few.

Phil Turcio (piano, keyboards, programming, co-producer) has been a frequent collaborator with Albare for over 20 years, in which time they have developed an uncanny rapport. They formed Urbanity in 2016, to record Urban Soul for Alfi Records. It reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Smooth Jazz charts, and was no. 70 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart in 2017.

Urbanity features original compositions by Albare and Phil, along with their instrumental arrangement of The Eagles classic, Desperado. Singer Bernard Fowler and saxophonist Tim Ries (from the Rolling Stones touring band) are featured guests on one track.

Even before its official release, Urbanity is enjoying significant success on the US Contemporary Jazz radio networks. Already, two singles have been released – Once Upon A Love and Desperado - and have featured on the Billboard Smooth Jazz chart. A third single, I Say, will be released during January.

For the album launch at Bird’s Basement, Albare and Phil Turcio will be joined by two accomplished younger generation players on the Melbourne jazz scene, in bassist Peter Mollica and drummer Kieran Rafferty.

Urbanity is playing 2 sets. On stage 8pm. Dinner is recommended not compulsory.
