Learn how to innovate and create with disability.

This workshop will teach participants how to write positive, convincing characters with disability, and how to shape the stories in which they feature, without reverting to stereotypes or tired tropes. It offers examples of characters with disability in Australian literature and will show how, rather than being something negative, disability is inherently creative. Participants will have the opportunity to write and workshop their characters and story arcs through a range of exercises.

Unavailable to make it in person? The Queensland Writers Centre also offers the opportunity to watch this workshop via online live stream.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this workshop, you will have a fundamental understanding of the key areas below:
- Stereotypes associated with disability and how to avoid them
- How to create believable and positive characters with disability
- How to write story arcs that do justice to the lived experience of people with disability
- How disability can prompt creative storylines and shape literary worlds in unique ways
