Want to try a new and rapidly growing sport? Curious to learn the art and skill of Dragon Boat Paddling? Looking to meet like-minded people, and compete in Dragon Boat racing events across Australia and the world? Do you just want to get fit, and strong while enjoying the great outdoors? If you said yes, then this intro to Dragon Boat paddling course is a great place to start!

Who's it for?
All fitness and experience levels are welcome and will benefit from this course. This course is ideal for total newbies or for people who haven’t paddled for a while and want to revisit the fundamentals in a friendly, safe group environment.

What will I learn?
Over 3 X hour long Saturday sessions you will be introduced to:
- Safe and efficient ways to warm up
- Your teammates and the importjance of teamwork in this sport
- Your paddle and how to ensure you pick the right one
- The fundamentals of the Dragon Boat stroke.
- Basics of racing

Once you've successfully completed this course, you will be eligible to join our Dragon Boating club - the Yarra River Dragons (YRDs) and join us for regular training sessions to consistently build on your skills, fitness and knowledge

What should I bring?
All equipment, lifejackets and paddles are supplied.

You will be getting wet, so make sure you wear appropriate clothing that wicks away moisture and keeps you warm, eg:
- Active wear Sport clothes, polypropylene or lycra tops and pants
- A windproof jacket or vest - optional
- Water shoes, sandals, river/reef booties or old, thin-soled footwear
- Hat. cap or beanie, depending on the weather
- Sun screen - even in winter, this is Melbourne!
- Water or energy drink in a bottle (we have water taps to refill bottles before training)
- Towel and change or clothes for afterwards—there are showers with hot water and change facilities.
