In 1952, Johnnie Johnson Trio had a residency @ the Cosmopolitan Club in St Louis. He needed a last minute replacement as his sax player had suffered a stroke. He called upcoming local guitar player, Chuck Berry to sit in. That night saw the birth of a new style of music - Rock & Roll. Soon renaming it the Chuck Berry Trio, they recorded, performed and toured together for 20 years.

However, though Berry became a worldwide sensation with numerous hits and accolades, Johnnie remained in the background on many classic recordings, providing Berry with ideas, the riffs, driving undercurrent, and jazz-influenced thundering full- handed top end, but was never given any mention, credit, recognition or royalties as songwriting partner or sideman.

In the mid 80s, Johnnie's career was given a rebirth, as he was headhunted to perform and be apart of the documentary film / live concert "Hail Hail Rock & Roll" celebrating Chuck's 60th. Numerous famous musicians were on the bill. Johnnie's playing was on fire! Go watch!

From then on Johnnie finally then got the chance to record, tour, and play his own music, his own band, performing with the world's best, and more importantly was finally acknowledged and recognized as a founding father of rock & roll music.

A long-time in the making - an event not to be missed.

Please remember these concerts are the only available income stream for working musicians.
