Celebrating cultural diversity with a heady mix of world music; Latin dance; global food; craft + design market; henna tattooing and an African art exhibition at Space2b.

Gambian instrumentalist, Amadou Suso is mesmerizing with the magical sounds of the Kora. Having acquired knowledge through generations of Kora players, Amadou is heavily inspired by tradition and culture.

High voltage African drumming will be performed by Seidu Mohamed and students from St Kilda Primary School. Siedu delivered drumming workshops at the school in the lead up to the Festival.

Forró Dance Australia is captivating with their demonstrations of Forró, a traditional partner dance from Brazil. Originating in northeast Brazil, Forro has evolved to include different musical beats and dance styles.

Continuing with the Latin influence, Amy Lynch is a Melbourne musician, specialising in Latin American music and Los Parceros Duo will also play music from Latin America and Spain. The Duo use a variety of instruments such as Spanish guitars, cajon, ukuleles, bongos and other percussion instruments to perform traditional/folkloric music to more contemporary styles.

The Laneway Festival includes: Indian, Somali and Iraqi artists offering beautiful face paintings and henna tattoos, Global foods and over 20 stalls of Australian designed products from local established and new migrant designers and artists.

Presented by Social Design Space2b an art + design social enterprise supporting people seeking asylum, refugees and newly arrived migrants become financially independent. The Laneway is behind Space2b at 144 Chapel St, Balaclava.
