Steve Waugh AO, renowned former Australian cricket captain, is launching a photographic exhibition titled, ‘The Spirit of Cricket – India’; a visual showcase comprising over 70 images depicting Steve’s passion for photography, India, and of course, cricket. Created with support from acclaimed photographer, Trent Parke and Canon Australia, Steve Waugh’s ‘The Spirit of Cricket – India’ exhibition will be open to the public from 31 October 2020 with entry by gold coin donation to The Steve Waugh Foundation.
Steve Waugh formed a strong connection to India in 1986 during his first visit to play international cricket. Since then, Steve has journeyed back to India many times for work, but hadn’t had the chance to immerse himself in the daily routines of the locals on a personal level until 2020. This is when ‘The Spirit of Cricket – India’ was born.
‘The Spirit of Cricket – India’ exhibition will take viewers on a visual journey with Steve, exploring the far-reaching places of the subcontinent where he saw Cricket being played. From the Maidans in Mumbai and the backstreets Kolkata and Jodhpur, to the desert of Rajasthan and in the foothills of the Himalayas; Steve saw participation at every level, all enjoying the sport. These treasured moments have been transformed into powerful visual stories via Steve’s lens, and he is now proud to share these images with Sydneysiders.
Bookings are not required but numbers are limited to 10 pax in the gallery at one time to adhere to strict social distancing requirements.
Steve Waugh’s ‘The Spirit of Cricket – India’ photographic exhibition supports a large format photo book of the same title, which contains 220 images captured by Steve on his travels to India. For more information, please visit Steve Waugh's website. The entire collection of images associated with ‘The Spirit of Cricket – India’ photographic series was captured and printed using Canon’s professional imaging products and services.
