Pottery Wheel Intensive for Teens | 2 day workshop

If you’ve always wanted to have a go at throwing pots in clay on the the pottery wheel, then this introductory workshop is a perfect start. In this two day workshop you will learn and practice the basics of wheel throwing pottery! This session is suitable for absolute beginners or those who have a little previous experience and would like to practice under the guidance of a tutor. With only 8 students per class, you will watch tutor demonstrations and receive hands-on instruction.

What to expect:

Day 1

- watch demonstrations by your tutor who will show you step by step what to do
- learn principles of best practice in the ceramic studio
- learn how to prepare your clay (wedging)
- practice the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing including: centering and shaping
- practice throwing simple cylindrical objects (pots, bowls, vessels)

Day 2

- learn and practice trimming your thrown vessels
- be introduced to a range of basic hand surface decorating techniques (for example sgraffito, rolled decoration and underglazing)
