Newcastle-based organisation, Hunter Community Environment Centre (HCEC) will host "Power and Pollution: National Community Summit" over the weekend of February 8–9th in Lake Macquarie, NSW. The summit stems from growing community concerns about the lack of Federal policy and planning for the diversification of Australia’s domestic energy sector. The summit aims to inform participants with up-to-date expert knowledge about the social, economic, government, industry and community processes associated with the decommissioning and transition of Australia’s aging coal-fired power stations, while resourcing regions with tools to advocate for improved outcomes upon coal-closure within their locale.
Speakers will include:
- Prof. John Wiseman, Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute & Energy Transition Research Hub, VIC
- Dr. Amanda Cahill, CEO The Next Economy, QLD
- Prof. Michael Askew, Australian Transitions Academy, NSW
- Lachlan Rule, Project Lead Beyond Zero Emissions, WA
- Bronya Lipski, Environmental Justice Australia, VIC
- Paul Winn, Hunter Community Environment Centre, NSW
- Lisa Evans, Administrative Counsel for Earthjustice, USA
Press are invited for a conference at the summit at around 11:30am.
