A search for a picture of the ship that brought his forebears to Australia will be the theme of Harley Stanton's presentation. On the last voyage to Moreton Bay in 1862 the Conway brought some 400 immigrants to Queensland. Among the passengers were ancestors of prominent Queenslanders including Queensland State Development Minister Cameron Dick and his brother Milton Dick, Federal Member for Oxley. Another early immigrant on the Conway was John Healy, who served as Councillor and Mayor of Warwick from 1875 through 1890.

Twenty years on, Harley Stanton still hasn’t found an image of the Conway, a three-masted clipper ship, but it was far from wasted effort. The search has culminated in a stylish volume: My Cathedral in the Sea – A History of the Conway.

Join us for an insightful and educational talk on immigration and Queensland history. The talk will be followed by a Q&A with Harley Stanton and a book signing opportunity as well as a professionally catered morning tea.
