Rag Rug With Me is about creativity, connection and crafting to completion, in a friendly and supportive environment.

Weekly Rag Rug Crafting Sessions

Join me and others, on Mondays at 1-3 pm, for chats, laughs and crafting. In these sessions, I'll guide you through the creative and technical components of creating a beautiful rag rug, from start to completion.

Dip into these ongoing sessions when it suits you, working at your own pace. Work on your rug in the group session, crafting with like-minded people–sharing ideas, knowledge and stories. Or complete parts of your rug at home and book a session when you're ready for the next stage or when you want to get creative and social.

In your first session, you'll learn and practise rag rug techniques using equipment provided. You'll discover what materials you'll need to bring to your next session to get started on your masterpiece–we'll craft together in a socially supportive environment.

No prior experience necessary, all abilities welcome.

Every Monday, 1 - 3 pm, except public holidays. Book the dates that suit you, with no commitment to attend each week.

Doors open at 1 pm

What to Bring
Please bring three to four items of unwanted clothing–most fabrics will work. You’ll re-use these fabrics for your rug.

If you don’t have any, you can source them free or at a low cost, from friends, family, a local thrift shop, or put a call out on your local Buy Nothing Facebook group.

If you have plenty to choose from, choose the colours you love or colours that work well together, for example:
whites, yellows, greens, blues
whites, yellows, oranges, reds
whites, pinks, purples
mixed pastels
mixed brights
whites, greys, blacks
complimentary colours contrast well–these are opposites on the colour wheel, like orange and blue, or red and green.

Session Leader/Artist

A practising artist and arts educator for fifteen years in the UK, Sophie has led hundreds of art projects for children as well as running training sessions for teachers working with children. Her artwork has been exhibited in a range of art galleries, with one series of sculpture housed in a permanent collection at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

Through her workshops and classes, Sophie aims to inspire creativity, sparking imagination, curiosity and awe, while at the same time teaching practical art techniques, processes and knowledge.

Sophie also works in the world of nonverbal communication, her second life-long passion. Occasionally she teaches combined nonverbal communication and art workshops. You can read more on our sister website My Alcomy.
