Perth's Feet First Collective is bringing Sarah Grochala’s award-winning play S-27 to the Adelaide Fringe for six shows.
S-27 won Amnesty International’s ‘Protect the Human’ Playwriting Competition in 2007. The play draws on the rule of the Khmer Rouge, the S-21 prison plus prison records and interviews. Set in polarising times, S-27 delves into human depravity, betrayal and abandoned morality. It is a time of extremes. The play begins with an immersive experience that thrusts audiences into this dystopian world.
The story follows May, a photographer who must document dissenters who have ‘rebelled’ against the Organisation. May is living life under duress and each scene raises the stakes and tests her loyalties. Is it to the people she once loved, her fellow human beings or to the Organisation? How far will she go in the Organisation’s name? How will she define herself when presented with unimaginable dilemmas? Put yourself in May’s shoes.
