'Music in the Mountains' & 'Pigeon Lane @ Gallery ONE88' have teamed up to bring you the Blue Mountain's newest monthly jazz series, 'Chasin' the bird'. It's home, Pigeon Lane, is one of Katoomba's best-kept secrets - it's not big, and you wouldn't know where it was unless someone pointed it out to you, however, it's got all the makings of a New York basement jazz club. The vibe is cool, it's intimate (you won't quite be knocking elbows...but it will be close) and you will be there to be absorbed by the music. Soak in the magic on the last Thursday of the month at Katoomba's very own 'Birdland'.

For this performance, jazz vocalist, Susan Gai Dowling, is trekking up the Mountains for an intimate performance with guitarist, Jim Pennell. There are few singers who are that special but Susan Gai Dowling is one of them—don't miss the rare opportunity to catch one of Sydney's greatest jazz vocalists!

Susan Ga Dowling:
Susan Gai Dowling jumped back into music during the 1980’s and has been in constant work as a Jazz singer at major venues and festivals here in Australia and overseas ever since including, an appearance last year at New York’s Birdland. Soon after Susan Gai returned to the stage she realised a dream of promoting her passion for jazz by joining a community radio station as a presenter. She now presents a jazz programme in Sydney at Fine Music 102.5fm on Monday nights 10-12 pm (The Australian Jazz Scene).

Susan Gai has released five albums—“Rent Party”, ”Where’s Love Gone”, ”Yellow Daze” a compilation “Live at the Reservoir” and more recently “In Summer”. All feature the cream of Australian Jazz musicians including Bernie McGann, John Pochee, Carl Dewhurst, Lloyd Swanton, David Levy, Brett Hirst, James Hauptman, Greg Royal and Cameron Undy.

“No one pushes the beat or phrases more personally.”
“Her delivery sends her superb band into overdrive.”
“This is very well sung indeed.” - John Clare Sydney Morning Herald – review of Rent Party

“The entire band cooks. Susan Gai Dowling is a soulful and buoyant singer.” - Cadence Music magazine Canada – review of Rent Party.

“Fine singers and drummers are as rare in Australia as driveable roads and drinkable pinot noir. Singer Susan Gai Dowling and John Pochee are both members of this elite club and here they are in one band...one left the performance glowing.” - John Shand Sydney Morning Herald – review of Where’s Love Gone.

“Sidestepping the mannerisms, childish desire to impress and look-at-me obsessions that best most singers, Susan Gai Dowling dances into the arms of truth.”
