Southgate Shopping Centre has teamed up with The Community Co-Operative Sutherland Shire for a food drive, making giving back easier than ever.
After what has been an incredibly challenging year for many local businesses and families, Southgate Shopping Centre has unveiled their T.L.C (The Local Community) Tree.
The tree will act as a collection point for donations to The Sutherland Shire Food Co-Operative, who will then distribute food relief to individuals and families who have suffered financial distress as a result of COVID-19.
Danielle Bullock, Marketing Manager of Southgate Shopping Centre, said “We have seen first-hand the impact COVID-19 has had on small businesses and individuals in our community. Instead of just focusing on creating a busy Centre this Christmas, we wanted to connect at a grass roots level and use our community platform to extend a branch to those in need.
“We ask those who are in a position to do so to throw a little something extra into their trollies this year, in order to help make Christmas a bit easier on those who are still doing it tough.”
Needed for the drive is non-perishable food items and toiletries, including (but not limited to) items such as pasta, tinned goods, spreads, coffee, chips, deodorants, soap, socks and toothbrushes.
The Co-Op is a collaboration between local not-for-profit organisations; Hopefield, Orana, One Meal and Salvation Army Miranda. The four charities have now teamed up to help Sutherland Shire residents access food relief.
