Blue Note, Bebop and Beyond...

JMQ Jazz Ensemble is delighted to present the all-round singer- entertainer, Tracy Bartram performing jazz music. Her longtime colleague, master guitarist Sam Lemann, shall also feature on this special evening.

Tracy Bartram has been singing since she arrived in Australia from London as a 3 year old. Standing on a chair to reach the microphone, she delivered a standing ovation performance at the Nunawading Migrant Hostel, in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, as a new Australian in the 1960s. Her rendition of ‘Jesus Loves Me’ stirs emotion even now half a century later.

Tracy started incorporating music into her one-woman shows from 1992, beginning with parodies of pop songs.Music based shows followed with sell out seasons at Melbourne’s Chapel Off Chapel, The Athenaeum, The Malthouse and the prestigious Adelaide Fringe & Edinburgh Fringe.

“She sings brilliantly.” - The Sunday Times, Scotland

In 2009, recovering her mojo after the death of her father, Bartram decided to do what she loved, forming a Jazz Ensemble and performing with the best musicians in town. She had a 3 year jazz residency at Dizzy's, and also appears elsewhere.Tracy is also well known as a radio broadcaster on Fox FM, Mix FM and The ABC, as well s an exceptional keynote speaker and has been called the best MC in the country, a title she is happy to own.

Sam Lemann first picked up a guitar at the tender age of 8 and hasn’t let go yet. Another esteemed graduate of WAAPA, Sam migrated to Melbourne in 1990. A master of versatility, Sam is the preferred choice of many singers and local bands, and the odd international and interstate junket. His outstanding playing can be heard on over 50 CDs, with his favourite music ‘40’s and 50’s Swing Jazz—while he plays all styles superbly.

Joining them onstage are Michael Harding, Hugh Harvey, Kim May and John Montesante.
Doors 6:30pm.
