In the midst of convict boats arriving each week from Britain, a different cargo leaves for Australia. On board are 287 single and free women. They have been promised good wages, good work and good marriage prospects in the new colony. But to claim their new life they must first survive the voyage...and then the colony.

Blurring the lines between theatre, opera and song cycle, The Good Girl Song Project's crystal-clear song-writing incorporates both original and well-loved traditional folk tunes and showcases a fresh female perspective of early Australian immigration, based on the work of renowned Australian historian Dr Liz Rushen. History never sounded so good!

In addition to the performance, Kingston Arts is proud to present two wonderful opportunities to engage more deeply with this fascinating subject. Dr Liz Rushen will present a free talk, at Parkdale Library, on her research on the lives of the women on whose stories the show is based. For bookings, call 1300 135 668. Then, on Saturday 1 August at 10am, The Good Girl Song Project will present a songwriting workshop to help you find your own voice and develop songs to tell your stories. Reserve your place by calling 9556 4440.
