Into the Fire: Camille Claudel

Join us to experience the Australian premiere of the song cycle, Camille Claudel: Into The Fire, performed by Melissa Davis and Jerry Wong at LUMAS Gallery. The song cycle is based on the life and work of the French sculptor, Camille Claudel.

Camille Claudel: Into the Fire tells the tragic story of the French sculptor and her inability to gain recognition during her lifetime. Largely overshadowed by the fame and excessive influence of her dominating lover Rodin, acclaimed operatic and song composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer provide a voice for Claudel. The song cycle brings new recognition to not only her work, but also her ideas, as well as the creative era in which she found herself captive.
