Held in the shade of large gum trees in the small town of Newstead, this is a friendly community market with a wide variety of stalls. The market is a great place to meet locals, catch up on what’s going on in the community and pick up a bargain.
We are delighted to announce a return to live music at the May market with the Red Sand Big Band. Based in Bendigo, the Red Sand Big Band is a traditional 40s/50s big band featuring trombones, trumpets, saxophones, piano, bass and drums. They play music from the swing era such as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington, along with modern songs with a swing feel. The band is available to hire but at the market you can listen for free, so this is a not to be missed opportunity. Maybe even bring your dancing shoes!
Other highlights at the market include:
- Fresh, locally-grown organic produce and preserves
- Plants of all kinds
- Second-hand goods such as books, clothes, tools and bric-a-brac
- Stalls from local community groups and local entrepreneurs. This is a great opportunity to find out what’s going on in the community and support local fundraising efforts and businesses.
- Fire safety information from the CFA stall
- Breakfast or lunch at the CFA barbeque, offering egg and bacon rolls, burgers, sausages, tea and coffee
We would love to have more stall-holders at the market, so if your family or community group has something to offer, please consider setting up a stall. It only costs $10 which makes it one of the cheapest markets around, and you’re supporting the Newstead CFA. There is no need to book ahead; you can just turn up on the day with your goods to sell.
