From Mornington to Mildura, Wodonga to Warragul, more than 100 venues across regional and metropolitan Victoria will host the NGV’s Kids on Tour program of free workshops and activities for kids, teens and families throughout January 2021. With the largest number of participating venues to date, this summer NGV Kids on Tour will offer access to arts and culture to more young Victorians than ever before.

Inspired by the NGV Triennial, a gallery-wide exhibition of contemporary art, design and architecture, and coinciding with the annual NGV Kids Summer Festival, held at NGV International 9 – 17 January 2021, the expansive 2021 NGV Kids on Tour program at Bunjil Place includes:

Family Drawing with Alice Oehr

Tuesday 19 January at 10am and 1pm
In these drawing and illustration workshops designed by Melbourne artist and designer Alice Oehr, kids will explore her colourful pop art style and passion for drawing cakes, portraits and creatures. Using specially designed templates, kids and families will discover Alice’s tips for drawing a delicious cake, create an extraordinary portrait using vibrant colours and patterns, and experiment with different ways to draw animals by looking at shape and texture.

Silly Sketches with Kenny Pittock

Wednesday 20 January at 10am and 1.00 pm
Melbourne artist Kenny Pittock uses playful wordplay to explore everyday objects in his artworks including ceramics, sculptures and paintings. For NGV Kids on Tour, Kenny has designed a series of drawing activities in which kids will create cheeky dog characters, imagine unusual ice-cream flavours for animals, and design their own cookbook cover.

Moko Moko Park Puppet Show with Misaki Kawai

Thursday 21 January at 10am and 1pm
This hands-on puppet making workshop is inspired by Japanese artist Misaki Kawai’s free NGV Kids exhibition, Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai for Kids, presented as part of the NGV Triennial. Drawing on the artist’s love of making puppets and performing shows with her brother as a child, Kawai has designed an activity for children to create a paper version of a dog park to perform puppet shows to entertain friends and family.

NGV Kids on Tour is generously supported by The Truby and Florence Williams Charitable Trust, managed by Equity Trustees, and the Packer Family and Crown Resorts Foundations as part of the Your NGV Arts Access Program for Students, Children and Families.

Bunjil Place is an award-winning cultural precinct in the City of Casey that first opened in 2017. The name and striking architectural design of the facility were inspired by stories of Bunjil (also known as ‘Bundjil’) the ‘creator’, from our First Nation’s People. Bringing together an outdoor community plaza, theatre, multipurpose studio, function centre, library, gallery and more – Bunjil Place is a destination for high-quality arts and entertainment in Melbourne’s south-east.
