Opening of Place and Space - Deborah Upton-Bowman

Gympie regional artist Deborah Upton-Bowman takes you on a visual travelogue of the ‘quintessential outback experience.’ Her artworks are characterised by the pared-back landscape highlighting and/or exaggerating elements and principles of line, shape, texture, colour, tone, size, proportion and contrast.

A panoramic view is reduced to a simplified version, considering the dominant aspects and features of the area or history of the land. The ‘story of country,’ recounted by descendants of the original inhabitants was a point of reference for the relevance of how specific landforms are viewed.
