Join artist and illustrator Frances Cannon to learn how to draw a self-portrait in a safe and body positive environment!  You'll learn simple self-portrait drawing techniques, reflect on your own coming-of-age moments and address yourself with love in a letter.

Frances Cannon is a multidisciplinary artist working mainly in drawing and painting in ink, gouache and watercolour, whose work and letters are featured in the Becoming You: An Incomplete Guide exhibition at Immigration Museum. Much of her work focuses on the body and the psyche and delves into the diaristic realm, using her own experiences as inspiration.  Frances is the founder of the Self Love Club, a tattoo movement that celebrates self-acceptance.

Frances has worked with Teen-Vogue, Gucci, Refinery 29, Third Drawer Down, and has been published in Vogue, Frankie, Yen, Teen-Vogue, Bustle, HuffPost, Dazed and Confused, Vogue, SBS Australia, i-D Mag, Rookie and many more. Frances is also the co-owner and director of Pink Ember Studio in Coburg.

This workshop is part of the Becoming Us series exploring identity within the LGBTIQA+ youth community, inspired by the Immigration Museum’s new exhibition Becoming You: An Incomplete Guide. The exhibition celebrates coming-of-age moments through real-life stories from contributors including Frances Cannon, Adolfo Aranjuez, Andreja Pejic, Jax Jacki Brown, Karen from Finance, Noel Tovey and Nevo Zisin.
