It has been some time now since the general public could safely go out for an evening and enjoy fine music and fine food in an indoor setting. Now that restrictions have eased in the ACT two of Canberra’s community big bands have combined to provide just such an opportunity. And what better way to celebrate the return of live music to our city than to spend some downtime wining and dining and listening to the toe-tapping strains of swing band tunes old and new.

“There is nothing like a big band for creating excitement and atmosphere,” Sally Greenaway, Musical Director for Blamey Street Big Band, said. “Canberra has a thriving big band scene with several community big bands and many more in the school system and universities. Blamey Street and ConneXion are long-standing examples of this form of jazz, and are made up of instrumentalists from all walks of life.”

“The evening will feature music from throughout the big band repertoire with a special emphasis on Australian compositions and arrangements,” added Justin Buckingham, Musical Director of Connexion Big Band. “And another element of the program will be a short segment featuring trombonist Damian Bool.”

“While it will be possible to get up and dance with your friends if you are so inclined, the program is geared primarily for those who enjoy the big band genre for its own sake,” Justin concluded.
The program will feature trombonist Damian Bool and vocalist Rachel Thorne.

Doors open at 6.00 pm. Food and drinks will be available for purchase on the evening.

This event will comply with any ACT COVID restrictions applicable at the time.

Book online. At-the-door sales available at slightly higher prices.
