Deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, an age-old hunt is underway for one of the world’s rarest and most expensive ingredients: the Alba white truffle. This heart-warming and hunger-inducing documentary follows the small band of men, seventy- or eighty years young that are the truffle hunters.

The WA Good Food Guide Film Festival showcases the talents of West Australian chefs and producers. Each screening has a thoughtfully curated food and beverage experience at its heart.

For our presentation of The Truffle Hunters, WAGFG is teaming up with David Coomer, known to many as the chef behind Star Anise, Pata Negra and Fuyu, and consultant chef at Island Market Trigg. Now owner of Manjimup’s Coomer Truffles he will be presenting a jar of his signature black truffle pate with accompaniments, truffle brie, charcuterie, black truffle, and miso popcorn, and the ultimate cinema snack, a black truffle ice cream sandwich.

Acclaimed drinks guru Mike Bennie has curated a special match of WA wines especially for the festival and the bar will be serving exceptional wines from WA vineyards including; Swinney, Chalari, Swan Valley Wines and Howard Park. Beers from Otherside Brewing Co include the ‘Festive Ale’ and the ‘Low-Fi’ and non-alcoholic wine NON will also be available.

Join us for a pre-film Q&A where David will be discussing all things truffles with Georgia Moore, Director of the WA Good Food Guide. There will also be a ‘real-life’ truffle hunt in the cinema where David’s dog Olive will search the VMAX Cinema for truffles before the film.
