Winner of the 2020 QPAS Queer Playwriting Award and the 2019 Mudfest Emerging Artist Award, Coming Out reflects the lived experiences of young LGBTQ+ women.

Mia is a blossoming bisexual coming to terms with who she is. After encountering Scout, a confident lesbian from her high school days, Mia struggles to retain her friendships. Meanwhile her straight friend Felicity is just so excited to ‘have a gay in the group!’

A comedy for queer women and their straight friends, this play delves into the queer; her body, her voice and her stories. Perfect for anyone who has a gay friend, sister, grandparent or colleague, this show highlights the complexity of being an ally as well as the formidable task of coming out.

As poignant as it is funny, Coming Out explores the relationships young queer woman have with others and with themselves, in a society that doesn’t totally want them in it. Exploring these themes through humour, this comedy steers away from queer trauma, focusing instead on how beautiful it is to be us. A true celebration of female queerness.
