Joel Creasey Camp Comedy Casting Call

The Star is teaming up with comedy superstar, Joel Creasey to give local rising LGBTQIA+ stand-up stars their time in the spotlight, by launching a casting call for a Camp Comedy show taking place in early 2023.

On Wednesday 3 August and Thursday 4 August, bars at The Star Sydney and The Star Gold Coast will be transformed for a one-night-only open-mic experience, inviting amateur comedians from across the country to vie for a place on Joel Creasey’s Camp Comedy line up.

Inspiration for the casting call comes from Creasey’s own experience having found that while diversity and inclusion are slowly becoming the societal norm, tackling for your first gig as a queer person can be daunting.

To compete for a spot on the tour next year, wannabe stand-ups from across New South Wales and Queensland will be able to take the stage alongside Joel for a five-minute set from 8:30pm at Atrium Bar at The Star Gold Coast on Wednesday 3 August and Rock Lily at The Star Sydney on Thursday 4 August.

The prize? An opportunity to work alongside and learn from some of the country’s best comedians (who shall also feature on the lineup. And, of course, bragging rights amongst the crowd at the bar.

Locals looking for laughs are also invited to join in on the fun, cheering on the rising stars, and indulging in mid-week entertainment alongside the venue’s range of indulgent bar snacks and extensive list of local beers, wines and spirits.
