Blak Label Music, through support from The Creative Sparks Fund, presents Wavey Sessions.

Wavey Sessions is a multi-part series showcasing some of the best up-and-coming musicians, with a focus on building an expanding community of support, learning and representation. The series also gives you the opportunity explore some of the unique venues and nightlife around Meanjin.

Keely is a proud Gubbi Gubbi and Ni-Vanuatu descendant whose mana is her music - drawing power from her cultural roots, inspiration from nature, and soul from her experiences of love and loss; ever-intertwining. Her vocal stylings are reminiscent of a summer's day, seamlessly fusing elements of neo-soul, R&B and modern jazz. Keely uses wordplay paired with sweet notes to take a lighthearted approach to exploring topics such as racial and gender oppression, abuse, trauma, and addiction.

Waveney Yasso is a singer/songwriter and a proud South Sea and Yuwi Burra descendant. Her original music is a gentle blend of acoustic/soul, inspired by the untold stories of her ancestors, her surroundings and the lessons of now. Join Waveney on this intimate journey, delivered through the simple recipe of melody and a six string, as she weaves together each piece to form a storybook of song exploring sisterhood, energy, and love.

As a proud Kuku Yalanji Bama of the Daintree in Qld, Charli Oh uses her music as a storytelling vessel. She takes inspiration from legends, like Melanie Martinez, MARINA, and Twenty One Pilots, while drawing on her own experiences in life to deliver emotionally-driven alt-pop ballads. Listen closely to Charli's lyrics, as she subtly weaves subliminal messages in her works that explore the motions associated with coming of age, relationships and personal discovery.

The Creative Sparks Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council to support local arts and culture in Brisbane.
