L’Étape Australia (pronounced [etap], French, meaning a stage of the Tour) is the only official Tour de France event in Australia and the largest of twenty L’Étape events held outside France. L’Étape Australia by Tour de France provides amateur riders with the closest experience to riding a mountainous stage of the Tour de France.

Run on fully closed roads, over a beautiful and varied course with three challenging climbs, L’Étape Australia is run under full Tour de France professional conditions and with world-class mechanical support provided by Shimano.

L’Étape is Australia’s most competitive event for amateur riders, while also providing a safe and enjoyable traffic-free riding environment for those who are not so competitive, but just want to have fun and complete the magical course. The course includes flat straights, rolling curving country roads and steep climbs with switchbacks through impenetrable rainforest.

Tour de France professional cyclists attend L’Étape Australia; Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome has ridden L’Étape twice, Mathew Hayman, Esteban Chaves and Simon Gerrans have ridden it once, while Amanda Spratt has ridden all four editions of L’Étape Australia.

You’ll hear your name called by Matthew Keenan and David McKenzie as you approach the Finish Line. The official Tour de France and SBS commentators are L’Etape Australia's MCs.
