"Off the Wall" an exhibition by Cathy Condon

Join local artist Cathy Condon to celebrate her immersive exhibition "Off the Wall'.

In 2021, she was granted a three month residency in the new creative space, Qube 226 in Gympie.
She began her residency by installing 12 large stretched blank canvases, however, with a stroke of inspiration, owners Sandra Phoenix and John J O’Brien gave Cathy the freedom to explore the space in an unconventional way by painting the entire room, turning it into an immersive experience.
Cathy worked tirelessly, up and down ladders stencilling the walls with vintage lace patterns, beautiful colour and imagery. The work was physically demanding.
After three months, the walls were torn down during Qube 226 renovations and pieces were kept. These resurrected artworks will form the Gympie Regional Gallery’s newest exhibition ‘Off the Wall’. Cathy said, “There is a beautiful freedom and a joy when expressing yourself as an artist in the entirety of a room. I created a walk-in canvas, an enveloping sensory experience”.
‘Off the Wall’ is on view from Thursday 20 January until Saturday 12 February 2022.
