After a sellout run at Circus Arts, Shield Maidens is back, transforming the Brunswick Picture House into the Great Hall of the Vikings this solstice. Get out your furs and leather and join us for a romp into the pagan celebration of an all-female Viking tribe! Gather your tribe and see you there, skol!

About Shield Maidens:

Shield Maidens is an all-female circus spectacular that tells a story of a tribe of Viking women, their conflicts and battles, using acrobatics, aerial and fire to create a breathtaking experience. The women unapologetically inhabit an incredibly strong archetype - the dark force of the divine mother - her look wild with the passion of killing and ultimately, survival. Show creator Alex Frith’s skills developed during a long career directing ground-breaking shows in Europe and the UK. His style is fast-paced and punchy with strong images and theatre effects. His unique mix of choreography and circus makes for high entertainment and Shield Maidens is no exception.

Leather-clad women spin on ropes, wield large axes and create a Viking world of harsh pagan landscape assisted by a dose of sequins and glitter to create a very engaging aesthetic. While safe in their seats, the audience is able to be close to the action, says Alex. "This is an immersive experience and you will feel like a part of the Viking world. The show is an 18+ performance so leave the kids at home and liberate your Viking spirit. While not explicit or overtly violent, it is directed toward adults in the spirit of a great party."

Brush off the winter blues and join us this June for a night to remember!
