Dinner Table Syndrome’ is an exhibition by Sue Jo Wright on display in the Object Space window gallery at Australian Design Centre.

‘Dinner Table Syndrome’ is a term used to describe the alienation deaf and hard-of-hearing people experience at everyday social gatherings — such as at the dining table. This isolation often undermines a deaf person’s self-esteem, prompting the discomforting thought — “Am I normal?”.

Sue Jo Wright is a Sydney-based artist working primarily with photography, video, and textiles, which explore her identity as a Deaf person.

Exhibition dates: 4 August - 28 September

Object Space is our window gallery located at the Australian Design Centre HQ on William Street, Darlinghurst, on view 24 hours a day.

We are following the NSW Health COVID-19 Safety Industry Guidelines for museums and galleries to keep our guests and staff safe.
