DEVOTIONS is a dreampop outfit that started as a way for songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Luke Zahnleiter to escape the loops of OCD and destructive habits. Based in Brisbane, he was joined by artists Kate Mockunzie and Amber Ramsey to create a romance between nostalgic pop and a narcotic-like ambiance. With a fascination of films by directors such as Wong Kar-Wai, Nicolas Winding-Refn and David Lynch, their music could easily soundtrack all the neon reverie and hedonism portrayed in these worlds. Throw in other core influences such as 80s Australian post-punk, ambient and the art of Ed Hopper, you can clearly see where their brand of minimal, luxuriant pop stems from. Their sound is one of bleak romanticism that captures a sonic pallet that is as fragile as it is beautiful.

MATT HSU'S OBSCURE ORCHESTRA is a radically-inclusive 20+ piece Obscure Orchestra gang might be Meanjin’s most eclectic lineup of alternative/experimental musicians, queer noise artists, indie figures, Conservatorium defectors and hip-hop luminaries; comprising of First Nations, BIPOC, disabled, neurodiverse, non-binary and trans artists. Surfacing as one of Australia’s most sought after projects (recently opening the 2024 QMAs) Obscure Orchestra challenges both the ‘white dudes with guitars’ indie music canon, and the pomp and formality of classical orchestras, bringing a fresh burst of joyful anti-colonial noisemaking, DIY spirit and POC-led diversity to the Australian music landscape.

SILVER SIRCUS is an ever-evolving collective led by vocalist/lyricist Lucinda Shaw and drummer/composer James Lees. Since 2008, they have built a highly eclectic sound world incorporating art rock, electronica, post-rock, prog and chamber folk elements. In varying formats, the band has delivered acclaimed performances for arts/music festivals all over Australia and has released several singles/EPs and two albums. They have recently been performing live as a full 7-piece ensemble and are working on two new recording/composing projects.

SMALLEST HORSE are a folk-punk band from Brisbane, Australia. They sing and shout about cute dogs and starting families, and about dealing with loss and moving forward. Heart, laughter, misery, and ukulele are some of what's poured into a Smallest Horse song. The end result has been known to make people feel stuff.

This event takes place on stolen Turrbul and Jagera land. We acknowledge them as the traditional custodians and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.
