Ellis House Arts Centre is nestled in Bayswater, this creative hub showcases local artists work all year round in a proud and vibrant display of the many talented creatives in the Boorloo, Perth local area. Currently on show is ‘Nature of Being’ a group show from artists Sarah Eve, Jan Henderson and Kamila Waleszkiewicz, present their artworks exploring personal connections and interpretations of the natural world

Sarah Eve is an abstract realism painter inspired by her travels around Australia. Her use of colours is vibrant, demanding attention with dramatic contrasting lighting and shadows, highlighting the unique textures and lines within rocks. She sees the land as both ancient and ephemeral and aspires to capture the beauty of both these concepts.

Jan Henderson paints abstracts with the intention of breaking free from the conventional way of seeing. Her work attempts to connect with the viewer in a deeply personal way through the exploration of colour and shapes.

Kamila Waleszkiewicz finds a thoughtful connection with nature, especially birds. For Kamila, birds serve as powerful symbols representing the souls of women, their dedication to family, struggles, and quest for freedom. In her recent printmaking and watercolour work, Kamila portrays birds that observe humans with the same curiosity and contemplation that humans often direct toward them.

The opening event for this exhibition will be held on Sunday the 29th of September 2-4pm. So if you’re someone who enjoys nibbling on a piece of cheese and champagne in hand while you explore the artworks on show make sure to come along to this event, it is free and open to the wider community.

Ellis house is a marvel in its own right, built in the early 1900s, Ellis House was the first dairy farm in the Bayswater District. Now Fully refurbished, it is a great example of early settler architecture. In March 2004 the ‘Ellis House Community Art Centre’ was officially opened. Ellis House is now home to a contemporary art gallery. The Ellis House Art Centre brings art to the community and supports local emerging artists through art exhibitions and classes. The centre is run by passionate volunteers, they will be sure to give you a welcome smile, they love taking about their art practice and community, and are always welcoming new members. Ellis House Art Centre is family friendly, wheelchair accessible and well behaved dogs are permitted in the gardens of this venue. Ellis House Art Centre is free entry and open to the public Thursday through Sunday 10am-4pm.

If you're looking to combine your love of arts and culture with a nature walk, you're in luck! Just a stone's throw from the Ellis House Art Centre lies the Baigup Wetlands. The name "Baigup," meaning "place of rushes" in one of the many Noongar dialects, perfectly captures the serene ambiance of this area. The leisurely shaded walk offers the chance to listen to various bird calls and spot local wildlife. The Audio Trail Baigup Biddi, accessible via the Geotourist app or online, enhances the experience with audio commentary and photos taken by members of the Baigup Wetland Interest Group. QR codes along the walkway provide additional information about the wetlands and habitats through Western Australia’s Virtual Trail network.

Riverside Gardens, just a short walk from Ellis House, offers a scenic spot to relax. You might want to stop by the Oarhouse Café for a coffee while enjoying the picturesque views of the Beeliar (Swan River). The riverside trail features children’s play equipment, well-maintained facilities, and, on weekends, a variety of food trucks. There's also a large off-lead dog park where your dog can run freely, socialize, and even take a swim. Continuing north along the river, you'll reach the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary. This tranquil spot, with its extensive wetlands, attracts over 100 species of birds, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts.
