Step into the year 2050, where Naarm Melbourne has grown into a sprawling megacity grappling with climate change, societal shifts, and evolving technologies. "Reworlding: Cardigan Commons" is a two-day, streetwide immersive climate action game inviting participants to navigate this future.

Players will shape the city’s regeneration by gathering resources, solving puzzles, and working together on creative solutions to make our future community thrive. The game will run for two days, allowing players to build their own neighbourhood together while the street is closed for the event!

Players join one of two factions, each with unique abilities to influence the game’s outcome. They will manage resources, participate in negotiations, build alliances, and make decisions that directly impact the community. In-game challenges like extreme weather, diminishing resources, and AI governance will require players to adapt and work together. This original game design is informed by research with First Peoples, urbanists and futurists, artists and designers, policymakers and gamemakers on design and cities.

“Reworlding” blends strategic gameplay with “live action role play” (LARP) in a futuristic “solarpunk” setting. Dressing with futuristic style is encouraged, whether that means simply wearing an unusual hat or playing in full costume.

Players are encouraged to attend both days (as the game's story will continue and develop throughout the weekend). Tickets include two days of play.

Reworlding’s mission is to explore how we might live together in a rapidly changing world, highlighting the importance of cooperation, resilience, and diverse perspectives. It’s not just a game–it’s a unique opportunity to play out what our future communities might become: how we adapt to environmental and social challenges, and how we create solutions together.
