Learning Labs are interactive, arts-based workshops designed to support arts workers as they imagine, build, and take action toward an industry powered by equity, access and inclusion for all humans. These workshops are designed for people who work in and around the live performance sector, and each workshop ends with a clear action-item for participants to use in their arts practice immediately.

Saturday July 6th - ABIDE
A.B.I.D.E. - ACCESS, BELONGING, INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, EQUITY
Moving beyond performative diversity, this Learning Lab defines access, belonging, inclusion, diversity and equity (ABIDE principles) using a framework that addresses each concept as an individual and specific part of a workplace and shares tangible metrics to recognise and measure them. You will gain a clear understanding of the intersection between ABIDE, learn how to recognise shortfalls within your work and be offered solutions to enact change.

Saturday July 13th/Thursday July 18th - Building an Inclusive Arts Practice
In this workshop you will examine your own relationship with bias, learn how to recognise and mitigate power imbalances, define three types of safety and assess your personal needs. We will also explore how to use this language to create emboldened and accountable spaces for your work, with conscious communication and collaboration in mind.

On completing this workshop, you will be taking away tools, language, actions and considerations for ways to further both your personal and organisational work, promoting a more inclusive, equitable and safe arts practice.

Saturday July 27th - Championing Anti-Racism in the Arts
In this learning lab, we will investigate the different types of microaggressions, understand the impact, and identify ways to address and interrupt them when they arise. This session encourages you to recognise patterns in your personal habits, workplace, and sector and to mitigate the negative impacts on others. This workshop is an excellent companion to the Building an Inclusive Arts Practice workshop.

Saturday August 3rd - Defining and Addressing Microaggressions
This workshop explores the history of race, racism and anti-racism. It is a deep dive into racism – what it is, what causes it, and how it continues to drive our practices even with the best of intentions.

As a participant, you will be encouraged to assess your own identity and experiences, to recognise the power and agency you have to create and champion change. Starting with an understanding of colonized practices and white supremacy culture, we will further investigate how and where racism exists in society, and articulate actions that support the ability for all arts workers - but specifically First Nations and People of Colour - to feel supported, empowered and able to thrive in Arts workplaces.

We are committed to giving you the best experience possible, so please let us know your accessibility requirements. While we can't guarantee that we will be able to meet every need, we are committed to doing everything we can to support you.
