Step into the quiet beauty of Advent with Bel a cappella as they present O Adonai - a contemplative and radiant choral journey inspired by the ancient “O” Antiphons.
The program interweaves Arvo Pärt’s full setting of the Sieben Magnificat Antiphonen with individual “O” texts by James MacMillan, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Roderick Williams and others. Echoing across time are works by Palestrina, Bruckner, Tallis, Grieg, and Hildegard von Bingen’s mystic chant O virtus sapientie.
From Pärt’s crystalline harmonies to the warm serenity of Bruckner and the shimmering hope of MacMillan’s O Radiant Dawn, this is music that speaks to the season’s longing, mystery and light.
