SugarRush Music and The Cave Inn present Brisbane Teenage Fan Club

Celebrating the musical and creative talents of south-east QLD teens is as the heart of the upcoming launch of the Brisbane Teenage Fan Club on January 16 at Woolloongabba venue The Cave Inn, featuring Hugo & The Hive, Massy, The SumFinks, October Fall, along with DJ’s, artwork and photography from emerging creatives.

The Brisbane Teenage Fan Club is a new project from Brisbane singer, songwriter and artsworker Deb Suckling who previously has run mentoring programs including the acclaimed Big Sky Girls program for the past decade.

Deb was motivated to start BTFC after conversations with fellow musician, 4ZZZ FM radio presenter and festival co-ordinator Branko Cosic about the lack of opportunities for young people to perform and grow stage skills and fanbases in real time to real people.

As Deb explains “Branko and I had talked about doing something like this for a couple of years, especially after what teens had gone through with COVID, current mental health stats and really having so few outlets to perform live apart from in school. A couple of beers with Steve Bell – music journalist legend at the Triffid beergarden and he came up with the name Brisbane Teenage Fan Club. A name was just what we need to get started and we are all thrilled to see the first BTFC showcase come to life.”

The launch features emerging acts aged between 13 – 18 years of age, with performances from:

Hugo and the Hive - Teen queer indie rock band Hugo and the Hive have performed all over South East Queensland, including at their first headline Brisbane show at The Junk Bar, to a packed enthusiastic audience. In 2023, Hugo and the Hive took out the Gympie Youth Week Battle of the Bands under 18 category and they got to open for TRILLIONS and Wave Raiders on Sunday the 14th of April 2024 on the big stage at Nelson Reserve thanks to Gympie Regional Council and Youth Week 2024 celebrations.

Massy – At just 17 years old, Brisbane-based rapper Massy has been steadily dropping tracks on Soundcloud for less than a year, now making a bold statement with his first official release on Spotify and YouTube for his thumping track ‘Takeoff’. Massy (pronounced Marr-Zee) is a prolific songwriter who defies his young age with thought-provoking lyrics. His upbringing, which involved moving across rural towns and bustling cityscapes, provides rich inspiration for his music. Listen here

The SumFinks - Straight out of Hillbrook College this groups of year 8 students are inspired by grunge, rock and punk music.

The Brisbane Teenage Fan Club program launch is a fundraiser to raise funds for mentoring opportunities for young creatives with established Brisbane creative legends and host four showcases a year at major Brisbane music venues.
